Yamaha Music London and pupils, from St George’s Cathedral Catholic Primary School in Southwark, had a ticket to fly on the Coca-Cola London Eye to celebrate Make Music Day, a free celebration of music across the UK and the world. Yamaha Music London took to the London sky on a mission to teach a group of complete beginners how to play a guitar in just one rotation of the London Eye.
The kids had fun rocking out in the Pod on Yamaha’s best-selling FG820 acoustic guitars. As the flight set off they were shown the correct way to hold a guitar and how to master the essential three chords that form the basis of most popular songs.
By the end of the flight the St George’s Cathedral Catholic Primary pupils had risen to the Make Music Day challenge, joining together for an awesome performance to demonstrate their new found guitar skills.
The group of nine and ten year olds thought it was “the coolest thing ever” and all screamed saying it was “totally amazing” when they were told they could keep the guitars!!
They have been inspired to ask their parents for guitar lessons and the teachers are going to continue today’s learning experience in class.
Yamaha’s flagship music store located in Wardour Street, just a minute from London’s Oxford Street, is keen to share their love of music and performance.
Nigel Hill Yamaha Music London store manager explains: “We want to inspire and encourage the next generation of aspiring musicians. Playing a musical instrument is joyful and uplifting. Studies have proved that playing a musical instrument boosts your health and well-being whatever your age or ability. For kids in particular learning to play a musical instrument improves concentration, co-ordination skills and increases self-esteem and confidence, benefits that will last a lifetime.”
The musical celebrations continue with the sixth annual Learn to Play Day which takes place on 24th / 25th June 2017. It is a UK wide event which offers the public FREE taster musical instrument lessons. Music for All is the Music Industry Association charity.
