We have just heard that a technology company in the USA has become one of the first to implant chips in their employees. Three Square Market are based in Wisconsin and are conducting a (voluntary) trial on 50 staff. The chip will be planted under the skin on the hand and will use Near Field Communications (NFC) as is currently used in contactless and credit cards for mobile payments.
The staff will use their chips to open doors, login to computers, pay for food and drink, even to use the photocopier!
This is already becoming the start of a trend and Sweden are early adopters with some train customers being offered the option of a hand chip instead of using tickets. We have also heard that TSB has announced that it will commence using iris recognition technology for mobile banking apps.
