The MIA Education Committee

Primary objective
Championing music education in schools and the wider society lies at the heart of the MIA’s activities. It has a dedicated Education Committee, formed of representatives from a broad spectrum of MIA member companies, who work with their industry peers, government and local education authorities to promote music education.

Comment
To support, maintain and improve music’s place in the lives of primarily young people by utilising the MIA’s strong links between industry and government.

Projects

MIA Education Committee priorities


Music Teacher Provision

Areas of Focus: Encouragement of musicians to teach, new teacher qualifications, specific MIA support involving the MIA retail community.

Early Years

Areas of Focus: Pre-school, Early Years in primary schools.

Government Liaison & Manifesto

Areas of Focus: Liaison with Government departments, working with the Music Manifesto and Quangos.

Curriculum Development and ICT

Areas of Focus: the National Curriculum, Key Stage 3 review, ICT in the curriculum.

Instrumental Teaching

Areas of Focus: Liaison with Federation of Music Services, lifelong learning - including an overview of the Weekend Warriors programme.

Vocational Training

Areas of Focus: Industry related training and qualifications at 16+. National Music Education Forum.

Outcomes and Communications

Areas of Focus: Messages to MIA members, website strategy, endorsees.
