Attitudes to Music in the UK - Research 29 March 2008
|
During the second half of 2005, the MIA commissioned an extensive survey into the music making habits of the UK. Over 1,000 households were questioned over a number of weeks across the whole of the UK. The completion of this research was possible through the kind support of our sister organisation in the US, NAMM and we would like to thank them for helping us with this groundbreaking research.
Through this survey the MIA has managed to gain a powerful insight into the musical instrument marketplace and the attitudes and intentions of the general population towards music making.
According to the research over 21% of the UK population over 5 years play an instrument, with 57% of them being under 35 years. However from the research it would appear that an additional 15.5m people would also like to learn to play music. The survey also gathered extensive feedback on attitudes to music and wellbeing, social development and education.
Access to this information will provide anyone involved in the music industry with a highly informative view on existing trends and help them gain an insight into potential new customers.
