News hot off the press! - £40 million boost for Music Education

The government has announced that an extra £40 million will be made available to primary schools as capital expenditure for the purchase of new musical instruments. Announced as part of the government’s ongoing national campaign to boost music making and singing in primary schools, the money will be distributed as £10 million per year over the next four years with the first £10 million available for schools to spend before the end of March 2008.

This represents a major boost to music education and the MIA has been asked by the government to produce guidance for schools, in partnership with the Federation of Music Services, to ensure they purchase the best quality instruments with these new funds.
A further £40 million in funds has also been announced to promote singing in schools in a ‘Sing Up’ campaign fronted by pop-star Jamelia.
