MIA member Dawsons Music, with some very exciting news about their new store in Leeds…
Dawsons Music (www.dawsons.co.uk) have announced a significant expansion to their presence in Leeds City Centre.
Opened in 2011, the current Leeds store has quickly developed into the go to music shop in the City and the primary destination for musicians across the wider Yorkshire region. As a result of this success, the Cheshire based Retailer has announced that they have acquired new selling space.
Managing Director, Mark Taylor said, “I am delighted to announce that we have acquired new space in Leeds, allowing us to triple the current selling area.” He continued, “This increases the square footage in Leeds City Centre to 10,000 sq ft, putting it on a par with Liverpool and Reading, and ahead of the current available space in Manchester.”
Leeds Metropolitan Borough has a population of 750,000 which makes it one of the largest cities in the UK. It offers a wide range of music venues, several Universities and the now well-established Leeds Festival.
“Leeds has a broad and vibrant music scene, which is supported by a diverse range of musicians.”, said Taylor. “The City has a number of Universities and Colleges and we have established ourselves as the main destination for students, alongside musicians from the wider region.”
Dawsons Music were established in 1898 and currently have 10 UK stores. Asked if they are looking to increase the number of stores, Taylor responded, “We are constantly looking at opportunities to grow our business and physical locations play a part in our strategy. However, Landlords are still looking for rental incomes at levels which would make poor commercial sense, making it hard to justify some locations. We do have a target acquisition list and are actively pursuing these locations.”
The new Leeds store is scheduled for an early Autumn opening due to the significant amount of work required in the building.
