Learn to Play Day 2017 – here we go!


So here it is, our annual Learn to Play Day is THIS WEEKEND!

As I’m sure you know, Learn to Play Day is the flagship event of the UK’s Music for All Charity, offering a free “taster” lesson on a musical instrument at hundreds of UK venues.

This year’s set up to be a great one, with the Worldwide Summer Solstice celebration ‘Make Music Day’ happening this Wednesday; we’ll experience a week of music making across the UK.

There are loads of events that we could tell you about to get you excited about the weekend, but here’s some highlights!

Yamaha Music London have got the face and voice of Learn to Play Day, Nina Schofield, live in their store performing the official Learn to Play Day anthem and giving a special pop music workshop. Dawkes Music are going to have two groups performing at this years event to inspire and enthuse visitors to the shop, and to see how exciting it can be to play music. They’ll be featuring Sforzando Sax Ensemble from South Berks Concert Band and also the My Music Adult Ensemble.

Many of the Musicroom stores across the UK are getting involved. Musicroom Nottingham are offering a chance for you to perform at an Open Mic session, and the Edinburgh store have created “Fleetwood Macintosh” for the day. They also have some fantastic competitions and prizes including an opportunity to win a Fender Sonoran SCE Electro Acoustic Guitar in York, Lincoln, Exeter and Nottingham AND a Marshall Code25 amp in York, Lincoln, Exeter, Nottingham, Salisbury and Stratford!

Roland will be utilizing their ‘Planets’, they have arranged for participating Planet stores to provide workshops and 1-2-1s on how technology can help when learning an instrument. This will focus on using our gear such as the Coach Function on the TD kits, Loopers for guitars, and apps such as Piano Partner for Pianos

Every PMT Store across the country are holding a Learn to Play Day event, with some famous faces joining some of them too! At PMT Norwich you can book a lesson with Ash Soan, who is the drummer for Adele, Robbie Williams, Cher, Celine Dion and more, and he’s also the house drummer on The Voice UK. PMT Oxford have got professional guitarist and face of Roland, Kaleb Rose joining them to show the public how it’s done

Music Kavern are holding a big event with Music Co-op teachers at Xscape in Milton Keyes that will definitely be worth checking out if you’re in the area!

Korg UK are holding their event at The Stables in Milton Keynes where there will be a chance to win a TM50 Tuner /Metronome, a must for anyone learning to play an instrument!

Organised by SoundBytes Media, the owners of The Foundry Studios in Sheffield… BrassEx this year will present opportunities to come on the day to try out an instrument, and if you like it, there will be members of training bands who can offer a route to continue with your musical journey too!

Rhythm Room will be at Togfest 2017 (a music festival happening in Milton Keynes on Saturday 24th June) Their pitch will be set up offering free taster lessons for drums, guitar and keyboard at the festival.

Chatham based drum teaching facility Medway Drum Studio is celebrating its fourth year of Learn to Play Day, and as well as opening their doors for the weekend, they’re offering four one day workshops in schools across Medway and Kent, completely free of charge! Giving one day to four schools could introduce as many as six hundred children to the fun of rhythm!
