Fightback: Grassroots promoter programme expands!

Incredible response to initial launch of programme for young female promoters

Live Nation and DHP Family join list of music industry supporters and partners

Music Venue Trust and Music Planet Live are delighted that following the successful launch of their Fightback Grassroots Promoter initiative, the programme is being expanded with a second opportunity aimed at anyone who is passionate about live music and want to learn the skills to become an independent promoter. STage 2 of the programme brings new partners and supporters on board, including DHP Family, Ticketweb, Ents24, Kilimanjaro Live, The List and many others.

FB: GP stage 2 will make an additional £100,000 in subsidy guarantees available to underwrite 100 additional Fightback fundraising shows at Grassroots Music Venues promoted by new promoters or those who want to try and develop their promoting skills.

MVT will supply a toolkit and contacts new promoters need to put on their show. Alongside this, the FB: GP scheme will match them with music industry experts with experience of every aspect of delivering a successful event who can mentor them through the process. The package of support includes:

  • A Gig-In-A-Box – everything you need to know about how to book, manage and promote a show
  • Support from your local Grassroots Music Venue and leading Independent Promoters and music industry professional acting as mentors
  • Be part of a national campaign with your own local event – profits from your Fightback show directly help to keep venues open through the Emergency Response service

Beverley Whitrick of MVT says:

We were overwhelmed with the fantastic feedback and responses to our initial Fightback Grassroots Promoter announcement, and it clearly demonstrated that there is a huge interest in promoting and in supporting grassroots music venues. This new initiative is open to everyone who would like to get involved. Bring us great ideas, and we will get you the support you need to make them a reality.

Fightback Grassroots Promoter is supported by key organisations and figures from every level of the music industry, with established promoters such as Live Nation and DHP Family among those getting behind the campaign:

Paul Latham, COO UK & Ireland, Live Nation says

“Live Nation already have female festival promoters and senior gig promoters but we are mindful that we can always do better and need more talent from the most diverse backgrounds. We wholly support the Music Venues Trust in their ground-breaking and laudable campaign.”

George Akins, DHP says:

There are clearly barriers to women breaking into the world of concert promotion. We as a company would like to see more women promoting, performing and working behind the scenes and if we can help in any way to see this come to fruition then we will.  By having more women working and performing in the industry we will naturally see more growth in the business.”

Fightback Grassroots Promoter is a targeted initiative from Music Venue Trust and Music Planet Live that sits alongside MPL’s announcement of £1 Million of incentives and grants to support emerging UK promoters and artists. Music Planet Live will be funding artists, projects and live events up to £5k each across the UK. In addition to show sponsorship, the site is designed so artists, venues and promoters of all levels can use its service to increase exposure and following, create a new audience and generate income through various means.

Richard Taylor of Music Planet Live says:

At Music Planet Live we don’t believe that a financial risk should always be a part of promoting for independent and emerging promoters at grassroots level. The role is vital for the entire live industry and we’re committed to supporting the hard work undertaken, which on many occasions has little financial reward. We want to provide an opportunity for promoters to be able to put on the shows they want. We want the venues paid, the artists paid and as such we want to help cover costs, so promoters can afford to put on a show risk free and help keep live music thriving”
