Alice here, with an update on one of my favourite events of the year – Learn to Play Day!
It’s been a fantastic lead up to the event, with a great range of shops, tuition groups/teachers, orchestras and more holding events; we’ve even managed to organise more events than last year! All of our venues are enthusiastic and raring to go – it’s great to be working with so many passionate organisations; old and new.
There’s some excellent events going on all over the UK, here’s some of the highlights
Both music store chains Musicroom and PMT are big supporters of Learn to Play Day and 2018 is no exception.
9 Musicroom stores across the UK are getting involved, with activities such as ‘Join Our Band’, maintenance tips and visits from music educators and examiners as well as free taster lessons – check out their blog which details their plan for a musical weekend here
PMT have partnered with Rocksteady Music School to deliver an exciting array of activities in their stores for Learn to Play Day. Every one of their stores will be getting involved on both Saturday and Sunday!
Highlights include unforgettable drum lessons with Pete Salisbury (The Charlatans, The Verve), Mike Heaton (Embrace) and Donald Johnson (A Certain Ratio) at PMT Manchester, and DJ’ing and mixing workshops at PMT London. Check out their page full of fun activites here
A few more of this year’s exciting events to look out for are: A drop-in event being held by Skipton Community Orchestra where all are welcome to an open rehearsal and free taster lessons on a range of instruments. Vale Pianos will be making music with a giant keyboard along with lots of other activities. Interflux band members Ben Saunders & Conor Page will be at Music Bunker helping with their FREE musical instrument taster lessons. These are just a sample of the many, many nationwide musical extravaganzas planned for Learn to Play Day 2018.
We’ve also had some much appreciated support from our suppliers and we’ve held some brilliant competitions and giveaways in music titles. Learn to Play Day has been featured in The Big Issue with a competition with Blackstar. Fender will be supporting Learn to Play Day with two special giveaways. Orange Amplification will be making their online teaching course available to everyone worldwide for free for Learn to Play Day. Roland will be supporting the event this weekend through their planet stores across the country. Thank you all for your support!
So, from Scotland to Cornwall, Wales to Norfolk, Learn to Play Day is a go – here’s to a great weekend of making more musicians!
