Amersham Band – can you help?

Amersham Band is a Brass Band with nearly 100 members. We run three bands for elementary, intermediate and advanced level players. Our group teaching programme for beginners has attracted many new players, mostly young people, who can benefit from the experience of playing music in a group. As well as musical skills, this also teaches teamwork, perseverance and self-confidence and is a source of social support. The band can provide instruments on loan and has a bursary fund to support those who are financially disadvantaged.

Our project to improve the accessibility of group music-making

The band wants to extend its activities, improving the accessibility of learning music throughout the local community, in particular to young people, senior citizens and people from disadvantaged back-grounds. We have ambitious plans for further growth including establishing a new Youth Band, a Big Band and extending teaching through the launch of a Brass Academy.

To do all this it is essential we have accessible and appropriate rehearsal and teaching facilities. Our current rented premises are too small and are under notice of closure. We have signed a 70 year lease and gained planning permission for a new building in the town centre. Our fundraising target is £425,000 to fund the construction and to launch the new bands and teaching academy. To date we have raised over £245,000 from donations, fundraising events, and grants.

When completed, the facility will also be made available for other local community groups such as choirs and local music ensembles. The project is a unique opportunity for Amersham to have a first-class music facility and cultural resource.

How you can help.

We are looking for funding, sponsorship, in-kind donations and volunteer help. We also need to spread the word about our project and the important benefits it can bring to young and old alike.
