Is saving time & money on your business utilities music to your ears? With energy bills rising, MIA Energy aims to keep costs down…

“We moved all our contracts and made a net saving on our renewal of over £500!” – Simon Pollard, Millers Music

Energy prices have been high since a 35% spike in 2008, and price rises have barely slowed down since. So it looks as though we’re set for steady increases in the cost of energy for the foreseeable future, with increases in demand, transportation costs, wholesale prices, and government legislation all set to keep costs high.

The Music Industries Association have partnered with Make It Cheaper who can help you to switch electricity and gas supplier or tariff. In the last 10 years, Make It Cheaper have switched over 250,000 businesses saving over £500m for customers.

How much can you save by switching Business Energy?

How much you can save by making the move to switch Business Electricity and Gas deals will depend on the contract you’re leaving.

Business Energy quotes are bespoke and often can’t be compared online but on average, small businesses spend £5,100 on electricity and £4,100 on gas per year. A 2015 Competition and Markets Authority investigation revealed that around 40% of businesses haven’t switched in the past five years and 39% have never made the move to switch electricity and gas supplier or tariff at all. These companies will be able to slash their bills simply by making the move to switch Business Gas and Electricity plans

How to switch with Make It Cheaper

A short phone call is all it takes for their energy experts to determine your consumption habits and needs.

Simon Pollard, Managing Director at Millers Music did just this. After a quick chat with Ryan, one of Make It Cheapers’ Business Savings Experts.

He said:

“We used the opportunity to bring everything together from 5 separate suppliers over our 4 sites down to just one and Ryan helped us to align all the contract end dates so that we’re in a better place to negotiate when our contracts next come up for renewal. The process was very easy and the Make It Cheaper team were very patient and diligent in getting all the information we required to make our decision in what was quite a complicated renewal. They provided analysis and insight into the market, recommending products and contracts to suit our needs.

We had a very competitive contract with our existing supplier as we always renegotiate but our renewal for energy came in considerably more than last year and Make It Cheaper managed to find us a considerable saving on the renewal. Ryan chatted us through the options and recommended we look at a 2 year contract with energy prices forecast to rise further.

Not every company will see a net saving on their existing contract but the renewal is key, if you aren’t looking for alternatives then you could be throwing away hundreds of pounds and on something as commoditised as energy. I can see no need not to try and find the cheapest supplier.”

During the call it can be helpful to have the following information to hand:

  • A recent energy bill
  • Your business’s registration information
  • Your MPAN and MPRN numbers from your bill or meter
  • Your contract’s expiry
  • Consumption details/ annual spend

The Make It Cheaper team can then start gathering, negotiating and comparing the best gas and electricity rates for your business. They have the Big Six energy suppliers and many independents on their books to provide you with a range of deals from across the market. We’re confident in Make It Cheaper’s energy know-how and can advise you on which deal is likely to suit best.
