KEO Percussion is proud to announce that world-class drummer Steve White has joined its roster of Signature Artists.
Steve White’s pedigree as a first-call musician was well established when he was invited by Paul Weller to play for The Style Council. Bringing a formidable jazz sensibility along with a natural feeling for swing and groove, Steve built his reputation on many recordings including “Long Hot Summer” and “Paris Match” as well as numerous world tours.
At this time, Steve gained the notable distinction of being the youngest performer on stage during Live Aid at Wembley in 1985!
By 1991, The Style Council was no more, but Steve continued his association with Paul Weller as the drummer in his new solo outfit. Again, many hits followed and Paul’s new band, with Steve in the drummer’s seat, played around the world to ecstatic audiences. When Paul undertook a solo acoustic tour, Steve began devoting more time to his love of teaching and became a course instructor at the world-famous Freddie Gee Drum Academy. Additionally, an invitation to build on his role as an educator led to a series of drum clinics, including breaking clinic attendance records in 2000 when appearing alongside drummer Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.
In 2001 Steve began a new journey as a product consultant within the drum manufacturing industry and was introduced to master drumbuilder Keith Keough. Together they designed and developed a portfolio of outstanding instruments, including the Modern Classic drums which won both the MIA and Rhythm Magazine awards for Best Drums in 2015.
Keith Keough has reinforced his reputation in the drumming world as a creative force to be reckoned with and in 2018 launched KEO Percussion with a range of spectacular handmade percussion instruments for professional drummers and percussionists. Steve White is the most recent musician to join the roster of Signature Artists, which also includes Iron Maiden’s Nicko McBrain.
Steve was keen to become a member of the KEO Percussion team, saying, “I’m absolutely delighted to be part of the KEO percussion family. It will be great to be working and creating with my dear friend Keith. I love the KEO Percussion products and I love the vision and the innovation. It’s going to be both productive and fun working with a great British company.”
Keith Keough added, “Steve and I go way back. My respect for him as a drummer and percussionist is well documented and I am honoured to have been involved in the development of some iconic instruments alongside Steve. I am delighted to welcome my friend Steve into the KEO Percussion family and I look forward to working on some amazing products together.”
