We would like to share the below letter in tribute to the late Alan Rogan, who looked after Pete Townshend’s guitars for many years, written by Andy Mooney, CEO of MIA Member Fender Musical Instruments Corporation…
I was greatly saddened to learn of Alan Rogan’s passing.
Alan may be best remembered as Pete Townsend’s guitar tech for over 40 years but during his storied career, Alan worked with countless legendary artists, including George Harrison, Ronnie Wood, Keith Richards, Joe Walsh, Tom Petty, Graham Nash, Angus Young and Eric Clapton.
I first met Alan in the early ‘90’s. Alan knew I was a Fender fan and was kind enough at our first meeting, to gift me a first edition copy of Bacon & Day’s Fender Book. I’ve been collecting the guitars pictured in that book ever since we met.
Alan and I were emailing back and forth just last month, musing on how much David Gilmour’s prized guitars would sell for. We were both very wrong. Alan’s comments were insightful and humorous as always.
Anyone who knew Alan, knew him as someone who’d brighten every room and make every conversation fun, but Alan was also the consummate, professional guitar technician. Alan was gracious enough to take me backstage when he toured with the Who and AC/DC. He was proud of his work and no detail was too small.
On behalf of the countless people Alan worked with at Fender over many years, we all would like to express our thanks to Alan for having known him, our sadness at his passing, our condolences to Alan’s daughter Kerri and all Alan’s many friends who all will surely miss him.
