We’d like to say Happy Birthday and a big congratulations to MIA Member Normans Musical Instruments who have recently celebrated their 60th year in business! Here’s some interesting thoughts and comments from Managing Director, Gareth Haines…
Gareth Haines, Managing Director says:
“It is amazing to think that Normans is now 60 years old and that unbelievably we still deal with a small number of customers and suppliers who we first dealt with back in the ‘50s!
Of course a lot’s changed in the intervening years! My Father, David, cites the introduction of the STD telephone network and the invention of affordable calculators in the 1970s as key factors in the initial expansion of Normans – things that we now take for granted, and have probably even been superseded. During my tenure, we’ve seen the introduction of next day couriers, an explosion of IT and computing power, of course the internet and latterly ubiquitous smart phone ownership – all of which profoundly impact the way we do business.
The commercial, cultural & societal landscape that we inhabit now is unrecognisable from even a few years ago, let alone 1959, so it’s remarkable that we’ve managed to reach this milestone at all!
Whilst much has changed in these 60 Years, we believe a lot remains the same when it comes to running Normans.
“Doing not talking”, understanding and responding to our customers’ ever evolving needs, continually investing in the business, watching costs and constantly developing and cultivating individuals within a strong team are part of the Normans DNA and we believe are key factors in cementing our longevity.
At Normans we’re all incredibly proud to be celebrating our Diamond Anniversary at a time when the business continues to go from strength to strength.
In reaching this milestone, we owe an enormous debt of gratitude to the team (past and present) whose huge amount of hard work and effort has gone into making Normans what it is today.
Pencil in September 2059 for our 100th Anniversary Celebrations – If I’m still around, I’ll be buying the drinks!”
