We have been delighted with the response to our advertisement for new MIA Board Directors, and we’ve received a record number of applications. We’re looking for committed candidates from across the industry. There’s still time to apply ahead of the deadline this Thursday 1st April.
The Music Industries Association (the MIA) is the trade body for music retailers and suppliers, and our purpose is to bring the industry together.
Our Vision: To make Musical Instruments, Music Technology and Music Learning accessible to everyone in the UK.
Our Mission: Empowered by our members, we champion innovation and high standards of best practice in the music products and services industry within the UK.
Following the largest outreach to our industry in over a decade via Town Hall events, weekly drop-ins and one-to-one meetings, we presented our new strategic plan for 2021/22 last Friday including three new pillars of focus – Amplify your Voice, Bring the Industry Together, Empower through Knowledge – alongside an investment by the MIA of over £184k in supporting the UK music industry for the coming year.
The role of the MIA Board
Board Directors are ultimately accountable to our members and the wider industry for the activities of the association. The Board works together with the Executive Team in developing the MIA strategic plan which the Executive Team are then responsible for delivering.
The Board meets six times a year for approximately 90 minutes. Directors also serve in smaller project groups, supported by the Executive Team, on topics that they are passionate about e.g. music education, industry statistics, retail, etc. Being an MIA Board Director is not a passive experience but rather one that requires active engagement of a few hours a month.
How you can help?
We are currently looking for additional board directors to join the team. At this time, we would particularly welcome applications from candidates with expertise, experience and a passion for one or more of the following areas:
- Businesses with a turnover <£500k
- Music Education
Being a Director will involve working with a number of allied organisations, and balancing a range of views and opinions. But it is a great opportunity to provide a clear and compelling call to action for the industry.
