We were so busy running the MIA last week that we forgot to mention the 2020 BBC Young Musician of the Year semi-finals were finally being broadcast on Friday night, followed by the concerto final on Sunday.
Many of you may already have seen both, but if you haven’t this is your reminder that you can catch up with the competition on BBC iPlayer.
The competition is an important showcase of emerging musical talent and, following the postponement of the 2020 semi-final and final due to the pandemic, these performances are a great beacon of hope for the return of live music-making – both crucially important to all areas of our industry.
It’s also fascinating to see how these young players have developed in their playing and musicianship during lockdown, and to think about how having additional time available many musicians of all ages and genres may have developed their skills. There may be plenty of people out there who are ready to upgrade their instruments, and it would be great to hear your experiences of this over the coming months.
