Denis Wick, who founded the company that bears his name fifty three years ago, has been recognised by the influential Brass Band website 4BarsRest with their Special Award for 2021.
They cite his influence on brass bands – “There are very few people associated with the brass band movement who can genuinely be described as architects of revolution. His remarkably informed musical insight linked to an equally refined business acumen revolutionised the sound of the modern brass band. It continues to this day; just look around the ranks of any brass band, from youth to elite level, and you both see and hear the influence of Denis Wick in action.”
Brass bands form an important part of Britain’s musical life. As well as the finest bands achieving incredibly high artistic levels, brass bands also provide an extensive grass roots movement and encourage many young players to take their first steps in music. British-style brass bands are now found all over the world including in many European countries, as well English-speaking nations such as the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
