Help shape the industry response to OST

The Government has launched a policy consultation into an Online Sales Tax. This is an open consultation, exploring the proposal for an online sales tax (OST) as a means to rebalance the taxation of the retail sector between online and in-store retail

There are 40 questions which address the detailed areas in which more information is sought. The full consultation is here: https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/online-sales-tax-policy-consultation

Although the consultation doesn’t close until the 20th May, we want to get your views about this issue as soon as possible. At the moment, it is not 100% clear how the revenue from an online sales tax would be spent, and whether it would be used to offset the current business rate levels.

Views will be wide ranging, but this survey will allow us to determine if the MIA can make representation on behalf of a significant number of sector companies.

A few things to note:

  • It’s short: only 18 questions, many of which are multiple choice
  • Your answers are confidential and no individual company data will be shared
  • Only one response per company please
  • A response is requested by Friday 8th April.

Thank you very much in advance for sharing your views with us.
