Introducing Communities

Over the next few months you are going to hear us use the word ‘community’ a lot.

Why?

Because that is how we are going to start organising our content, to make it easier for you to understand & engage with the work that the MIA is doing. One of the features of having a unique Member account is that you can decide which communities you want to be associated with, and then be kept up to date with matter relating to that group.

Communities

We have already begun the process of transitioning to this way of working. When we launched the new MIA website last month it had a breakdown of our new communities which are;

  • Future Leaders
  • Sustainability
  • Equality
  • Retail
  • Manufacture
  • Pathways

If you click through to any of these pages you will see a short description of the community and then our most recent articles relevant to that group. Depending on the subject matter of the content it may be dual displayed, if we feel it is of interest to multiple groups.

The Manufacture Community (as an example).

A few weeks ago we ran a Friday drop-in session about the new UKCA mark, this is the standard that is the replacement for the CE mark. We had a great session, and over the course of the hour it became obvious that we needed to get some professional insight to help answer some of the outstanding member questions.

As such we have organised for a follow-up Webinar with a representative of BEIS in the coming weeks, and this will be branded as a Manufacture Community event. The content will be hosted accordingly on the website, and we will update members of the Manufacture community both pre & post event.

Get the idea?

The next week or so…

From tomorrow we are going to run a number of stories, each based around a specific community. This will not only introduce the communities in a little more detail but also serve as examples of how things will work in the future.

This should also help inform decisions about the communities you may want to sign up to in the future. And we will be updating you with more information of how to do that over the coming week as well.
