The #GuitarTok Effect: How TikTok is changing how we create, consume and discover new music

On Tuesday, July 19th, Fender hosted an innovative panel discussion, “The #GuitarTok Effect: How TikTok is changing how we create, consume and discover new music,” to dive deeper into the TikTok phenomenon and the platform’s impact on music and the industry.

The industry has proven that TikTok has an immense impact on creators and how they make music, how fans consume it, and how new artists are being discovered, but little storytelling has been done to dissect that, especially as it pertains to guitarists/bassists on the platform. What does it all mean for artists and songwriters and what role is guitar playing in this new creative, social media landscape?

FMIC CMO Evan Jones, moderator and digital media writer at The Hollywood Reporter, J. Clara Chan, and the panellists William Gruger (Music Editorial Lead at TikTok), Blu DeTiger (artist and musician), April Kae (artist, content creator, activist and bass player) and  Adam Hirsch and Benito Lugo (music managers, and co-founders at ALT: VISION & Too Future) dove deeper into the TikTok phenomenon, its impact on music, the powerful #guitartok community and the integral role Player Plus guitars play as tools for rising artists and guitarists to create, as well as inspire community and collaboration on the app.
