Play Music Today is the UK’s largest multichannel musical instrument retailer with 12 stores and an ecom site at pmtonline.co.uk. Our mission is to inspire people to Play Music Today and we’re dedicated to providing musicians of all levels with the instruments and expertise they need.
We’re seeking a Marketing Manager to plan and execute campaigns across all our channels including retail stores, social and the website. You’ll have a strong understanding of our different customer types, be comfortable managing content teams and have excellent organisational skills.
The marketing manager will lead a team of designers, videographers and marketing executives to build and deliver a comprehensive year-round marketing plan. You’ll also work closely with heads of CRM, digital and commercial to ensure campaigns are delivered effectively and to schedule.
As well as this, you’ll work with some of the coolest brands in the music industry business to devise joint marketing campaigns and bring in marketing funding.
PMT is fast-paced, intense and varied. We need someone who’s passionate about customers and who can balance working strategically with getting stuck into the detail of running a retailer in a competitive and fast-changing environment.
Responsibilities
1. Champion PMT brand and customer
- Build a detailed understanding of our different customer segments and the best ways of communicating with them.
- Develop a clear, compelling proposition for the PMT brand and its USPs.
- Monitor competitor activity and develop the PMT offering to remain competitive and differentiated.
2. Campaign Planning
- Own the marketing calendar to build a year-round program of relevant, commercial content and promotions. Develop detailed plans for each campaign on relevant channels.
- Brief, schedule and execute marketing campaigns across internal and external teams to ensure timely delivery and maximum impact.
- Monitor and analyse campaign performance metrics to identify opportunities for improvement.
3. Content Creation
- Lead and manage a team of designers, videographers and social media specialists.
- Act as the editor for all new content, working with our buying teams and suppliers to ensure content is accurate, engaging and commercial.
- Establish processes for content creation, approval, and publication to maintain quality and consistency across all marketing channels.
- Develop product and packaging designs for PMT own-brands.
- Understand and exploit social media algorithms to maximise reach and YouTube revenue.
4. Retail Marketing In-Store
- Develop and implement operational guidelines and procedures for in-store marketing activities, including signage, displays, and promotions.
- Collaborate closely with store managers to ensure high operational standards and make the most of each store’s unique footprint.
- Run a regular program of events to drive footfall.
- Monitor and assess the effectiveness of in-store marketing efforts, adjusting processes as needed to optimize performance and drive sales.
5. Supplier Partnerships
- Establish and manage processes for securing co-op funding from suppliers to support marketing initiatives and campaigns.
- Cultivate strong relationships with suppliers and negotiate funding agreements while ensuring compliance with co-op funding requirements.
- Develop procedures for tracking and reporting on supplier-funded marketing activities.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in a retail marketing role with end-to-end campaign management experience.
- Good all-round understanding of retail marketing channels including in-store POS, digital marketing and social media.
- A people person with previous team leadership experience.
- Management of third party relationships and negotiations.
- Hands-on experience of managing POS in store an advantage.
