Moseley Violins is seeking a Workshop Repairer and Restorer to join their small but long- established team. This position offers the opportunity to learn and expand skills and experience under the guidance of the two workshop Principals who have 45 years’ experience in the trade.
Based in the leafy suburb of Moseley, known locally as the ‘Bohemian Quarter’, due the range of musicians and artists who live locally, Moseley Violins has over 10,000 customers on its books, a third of which live locally. Our business is thriving and demand for our services is increasing fast. Google reviews indicate how much we are valued for our professionalism and guidance.
Customers bring us a wide range of instruments from student to professional level, modern to antique, as well as electric instruments.
The main duties will be:
- Undertaking repairs, restoration and setting up of musical instruments of the violin family, rehairing and repairing bows, under the guidance of the two Principals. Training will be given if skills and experience need to be developed.
- Estimating and invoicing repairs and restoration costs using an electronic menu package and in consultation with customers.
- Assist with sales from time-to-time, including demonstrating instruments.
- Assisting in basic tasks associated with running a retail outlet and workshop.
- The successful candidate will need to demonstrate that they have, as a minimum, skills and experience in tuning, setting up, repairs and restoration, of instruments of the violin family and have good woodworking skill. This will include knowledge of tools, woods, and materials with the knowledge of instrument construction.
They should have good interpersonal and team-working skills, be confident in using IT packages, and ideally be able demonstrate an instrument of the violin family, or have the aptitude to learn.
