Black Lives in Music is growing! Standing on the front lines of diversity in the UK Music industry, we are looking for ambitious, passionate, and exceptional people to help take our organisation to the next level.

We are seeking two new roles – a Relationship Manager and a Project Manager to join our expanding team.

Relationship Manager

The Role

We are seeking a dynamic, well-organised Relationship Manager with a passion for jazz and classical music to join our expanding organisation.  BLiM has established its role in the movement for equality of opportunity for people of colour in the jazz and classical music sector and the BLiM relationship manager is focused on the successful dialogue and relationship building with organisations signed and committed to the BLiM charter for change.

The role of the Relationship Manager will be to work with partner organisations to improve diversity at all levels of the organisation by using their own professional and lived-in experience in tandem with key metrics produced by in-house and BLiM reporting.   The BLiM RM will report directly to the Director of Operations  They will work with organisations clearly suggesting ways to improve on short, medium and long term time scales.  The BLiM RM will offer support and help with development in all areas of it’s progress with diversity.

The ideal candidate will be an energetic and organised person with practical skills in relationship and change management, reporting as well as light administrative tasks (e.g. calendar/email and simple word processing).  As a small organisation, it is important the role holder is able to work as part of a team and willing to get involved in other aspects of BLiM’s work as suitable to the skills of the RM.

Responsibilities

  • Meet and manage diversity improvement process in BLiM affiliated organisations
  • Debrief the BLiM line manager on situation, progress and recommendations for improvement in diversity in BLiM affiliated organisations
  • Attending rehearsals/concerts and events as part of the evaluative aspect of relationship management
  • Good leadership skills
  • Confident communicator
  • Strong experience of people and project management
  • Good understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced by cultural organisations
  • Experience of managing change
  • Strong understanding of business planning and financial reporting
  • Attend high profile events and activities as needed to represent BLiM
  • Produce high quality written documentation of process and evaluation
  • Undertaking other reasonable duties as required by mutual agreement

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • A working knowledge of the UK jazz and classical music system is required.
  • Considered candidates should have direct experience in music education or the creative industry (graphic design firms, fashion industry, film, photography, or music industries) – personal creative background highly preferred
  • Ability to work independently
  • Very strong verbal and written communication skills; exceptional presentation skills (visual design oversight & oral presentation); is clear, and concise
  • Excellent people and management skills to interact with staff, colleagues, cross-functional teams and third parties
  • Passion for helping overcome business challenges and solving complex problems
  • Proven track record of developing collaborative relationships through gaining trust and successful delivery
  • Detail oriented; understands and pays attention to nuances
  • Ability to communicate effectively under high-pressure situations
  • Creative innovator, constantly thinking of how to improve the process/product and increase efficiency

Project Manager

The Role

We are seeking a Project Manager that will provide leadership while managing productivity and executing projects to the highest standards. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong project management capabilities and excellent client interfacing skills. They are passionate about development and wanting to grow the brand. They are a true visionary, disciplined, collaborative, and extremely capable of manifesting new ideas. They will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the project by utilising internal resources, managing the project team’s day-to- day tasks, while proactively thinking about how to improve the work, and leading timelines.

Responsibilities

  • Manage overall quality, budget and schedule for project
  • Full process oversight of project team
  • Manage multiple projects at a time and prioritise workload within the group to ensure that project timelines are met
  • Insure project team is adequately resourced to achieve project goals
  • Inspire project team to achieve goals through effective leadership
  • Lead all project reviews and signoffs
  • Serve as primary point of contact for all extended and external project team members
  • Substantial involvement during early stages, bidding to secure agreements, with vendors, finalise budget, award contracts
  • Generate and continuously maintain reporting data for respective projects, reporting to upper management as necessary
  • Work across the department to roll out new initiatives and meeting targets
  • Support launch campaigns in new territories, working directly with external agencies where required.
  • Build relationships with artists and influencers to support campaigns and launches.
  • Build relationships with and work directly with media partners to support campaigns and elevate them to wider audiences.
  • Conduct market research, and work with the product team to understand market trends and consumer behaviours, ensuring maximum campaign success.
  • Create, plan, and produce different types of content in collaboration with the Social media manager for social media platforms (ie; blogs, video, visual content) to maximise reach and engagement of campaigns.
  • Must be willing and able to travel to oversee the projects at the various stages
    This role isn’t for you if:
  • You are looking for direction – this is a lead role.
  • You don’t enjoy a start-up environment.
  • You’re not interested in music creation and production.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 5+ years of experience of all phases of the design process from schematic design through the bid process and construction management years of progressively complex marketing preferably working in the music industry or with a music streaming company
  • Considered candidates should have direct experience in music education or the creative industry (graphic design firms, fashion industry, film, photography, or music industries) – personal creative background highly preferred
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Very strong verbal and written communication skills; exceptional presentation skills (visual design oversight & oral presentation); is clear, and concise
  • Adaptable; can roll with the punches and tweak approach to project when necessary
  • Excellent people and management skills to interact with staff, colleagues, cross-functional teams and third parties
  • Passion for helping overcome business challenges and solving complex problems
  • Proven track record of developing collaborative relationships through gaining trust and successful delivery
  • Detail oriented; understands and pays attention to nuances
  • Ability to communicate effectively under high-pressure situations
