We’ve all heard the term “Net Zero” thrown around, but how many of us truly understand what it means, what the goals are, and, most importantly, what actions we can take to help achieve it?
Achieving Net Zero status was set out by the UK government in the 2017 revision to the Climate Change Act, setting the 2050 target date in law. As a minimum, we all need to be aiming to achieve this, but without time to dedicate to researching this topic it is difficult to know where to start.
The journey to net zero can feel daunting, especially when you’re also managing the day-to-day demands of running a business. Luckily, help is available, and that’s where the MIA Net Zero Transition Plan comes in.
MIA board member and Focusrite’s Head of Sustainability, Andy Land, has developed the MIA Net Zero Transition Plan – a comprehensive guide designed and written specifically for MIA members to help create an effective Transition Plan for your music industry business; whether you’re a retailer, a supplier or a manufacturer.
The purpose of this document is to provide a starting point for all MIA members to begin developing a Transition Plan to achieve Net Zero, based on the principles outlined in the UK’s Transition Plan Taskforce 2023 guidance. This valuable resource is a major benefit for members, and will greatly simplify the journey toward Net Zero, regardless of your company’s type or size.
We hosted a virtual launch and drop-in session last Friday, where Andy presented an overview of this resource to a group of MIA company representatives and explained how members can leverage it to take practical steps toward sustainability. In the coming
months, we’ll be sharing additional articles and video clips that break down the guide, encouraging you to use it to kickstart your sustainability journey.
In summary, here’s how to use this guide in 5 simple steps:
1) Identify which business activities apply to you
2) Establish which business size bracket you fall into
3) Note down which transition actions apply to your business activities
4) Read in detail the relevant transition action detail pages
5) Contact Andy Land if you have any questions
