The Government is overhauling UK product safety rules for the first time in a generation. Their aim is to modernise and simplify the UK’s product safety rules. Three new consultations have been published, each covering a key area of product safety, so this is your chance to help shape reforms that will impact businesses, consumers, and enforcement practices across the country.
What’s Happening? Three new consultations have been published, each covering a key area of product safety:
- The UK’s new product safety framework – modernising rules to keep pace with today’s products and supply chains.
- Enforcement and market surveillance reform – making it easier to ensure products meet safety standards.
- Furniture fire safety reform – updating safety standards for domestic upholstered furniture. (We realise that this one might not be very relevant to MIA members, but thought we better mention it!)
These proposals respond to long-standing calls from businesses, consumer groups, and enforcement authorities for rules that are fit for modern times.
Labelling Flexibility
Alongside the consultations, the Government plans to give businesses more flexibility when labelling products with the UKCA or CE mark. New legislation will follow later this year.
Have Your Say The consultations are open for 12 weeks until 23 June 2026. You can review the proposals and submit your response here:
