Position: Woodwind Technician (Single Reed)
Reports to: Retail Manager
Location: Howarth of London Ltd, 31 Chiltern Street, London, W1U 7PN
Salary range: £28,000 to £32,000 per annum, depending on experience
Contract: Full Time Permanent
Working Hours: Five days a week, Monday to Friday from 9.00am to 5.30pm (40 hours per week)

Howarth of London is the UK’s leading manufacturer of high-quality Oboes and a retailer of Woodwind Instruments. Based in our London showrooms, you will be part of a team responsible for all aspects of retail sales, confidently handling instore, telephone and email enquiries whilst upholding our reputation for exceptional customer service. As well as sales, you will deal with all shop floor duties, including testing and setting up stock, keeping the shop clean and tidy, dealing with regular stock deliveries, and maintaining our shop displays. Ideally you will have previous retail experience, although this is not essential.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Service and repair customer-owned single Reed instruments with a high level of craftsmanship in a time-efficient manner.
• Interact with customers to discuss the service and repair of customer’s instruments and their requirements to ensure service and repairs meet the company’s expectations.
• Quote for work accurately and maintain records of seen and repaired instruments.
• Complete warranty repair work.
• Maintain stock instruments, as requested
• Perform Quality Control inspections of retail stock and functional checks of saxophone and clarinets, identifying and resolving any defects where and when possible/required.
• Setting up clarinets and saxophones for optimum playability and ensuring they meet and adhere to set standards.
• Able to learn quickly and take positive action without being requested to do so.
• Ensure a positive customer experienceAssess, quote and record for consignment sale instrument repairs to bring to good working order.
• Provide effective professional communication with team members and management
• Able to assess repair parts required for stocking for current and future needs.
• Work to health and safety requirements consistently
CANDIDATE PROFILE
ESSENTIAL
Positive individual and team player with excellent personal time management and communication skills.
• Excellent knowledge of single reed instrument maintenance and repair with demonstrable experience in the repair field.
• A keen passion for all things single reed and good product knowledge.
• Ability to test single reed instruments for playability and identify mechanical and intonation faults.
• An existing working knowledge of single reed instruments and setup requirements is essential.
• Successful applicants will be required to demonstrate relevant skills and experience as part of a practical interview.
• Understands customer service principles, and able to provide an excellent customer experience.
• Able to manage time effectively and meet deadlines whilst maintaining quality of work.
• Able to connect with customers and other team members in a meaningful way and handle customer service issues.
• Approachable, genuine, knowledgeable, encouraging, passionate, and committed to helping customers with single reed enquiries.
• Aware of health and safety working practices for workshop situations.
