We would like to inform members that the process for claiming refunds on tariffs introduced under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) is now underway, following a ruling by the US Supreme Court.
Some MIA members have already registered, but there may be many other UK exporters eligible for refunds from the U.S. government – so it’s worth checking whether your business can claim.
Who can claim?
Businesses listed as the importer of record on affected shipments can submit claims via the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE).
What to expect
According to US Customs and Border Protection, approved refunds will be paid by electronic transfer within 60–90 days. The first phase focuses on unliquidated entries and those finalised within the past 80 days.
Ongoing developments
A separate legal challenge is being considered by the US Court of International Trade regarding current 10% tariffs introduced under Section 122. A decision is pending, and the tariffs are due to expire on 24 July unless extended by Congress.
What you should do
If you think your business may be affected, review your import records and consider starting the claims process as soon as possible.
We will continue to keep members updated as further information becomes available.
