MIA member Focusrite has published its 2026 Sustainability Reports, providing a detailed look at the company’s environmental performance and the progress it continues to make towards reducing its impact.

Published alongside the company’s Annual Report, this year’s disclosures show improvements across several key measures, demonstrating how sustainability has become embedded within Focusrite’s long-term business strategy.

Among the highlights are:

  • An 8.5% reduction in total greenhouse gas emissions, falling from 82,000 to 75,000 tonnes CO₂e over the past year.
  • The lowest greenhouse gas emissions per product sold since 2021, alongside a continued reduction in emissions intensity per £ of revenue, showing the company is reducing emissions while continuing to grow.
  • 114 hardware products now incorporate at least one sustainability initiative, with sustainability increasingly integrated into product development.
  • An improved CDP Climate Score of B, including an A rating for emissions disclosure.
  • Continued collaboration across the sector, including participation in 22 industry and sustainability events over the past 18 months to share knowledge and encourage wider progress.

Andy Land, Global Head of Sustainability at Focusrite, says the company’s approach is about ensuring future growth is increasingly decoupled from emissions.

“These intensity and absolute metrics matter long-term as we decouple future growth from our greenhouse gas emissions. Our environmental data highlights the hotspots that give us a roadmap of where to prioritise. As our own emissions are increasingly measured and reduced, our focus is expanding to our industry and supply chain, where the greatest opportunity for further decarbonisation lies.”

So, what can be learnt?

While Focusrite’s reporting reflects the scale and governance expected of a publicly listed company, many of the underlying principles are relevant to businesses across the music industry.

The reports demonstrate that meaningful progress doesn’t come from trying to tackle everything at once. Instead, it starts with understanding your biggest impacts, measuring them consistently, and using that information to guide decisions over time.

For smaller businesses, that might mean reviewing energy use, reducing packaging, designing products with greater longevity, or taking the first steps towards measuring a carbon footprint. None of these require producing a report of this scale, but they all contribute to building a more resilient and sustainable business.

One of the strongest messages from Focusrite’s reporting is that sustainability is no longer treated as a standalone initiative, but as part of long-term business planning and risk management. It’s an approach that businesses of all sizes can learn from, even if they’re only just beginning their sustainability journey.

The MIA is pleased to see members like Focusrite leading by example and sharing their progress openly. By highlighting practical approaches and measurable outcomes, reports like these help strengthen knowledge across our industry and encourage businesses of every size to continue making positive changes.
