Run by the charity Music for All, Learn to Play is a national celebratory weekend of music-making, returning across the 8 – 11 October 2026. A wide breadth of music educators, retailers, community groups, schools and more are invited to open their doors to offer free taster sessions and musical experiences for people of all ages and abilities.
Why get involved?
Many people would love to make music, they just need an invitation.
Whether someone is completely new to music, returning after years away, or simply curious to try something different, Learn to Play creates a low-pressure, welcoming first step. Research consistently shows the social, emotional and wellbeing benefits of music-making, and events like these help people experience that joy for themselves.
As a provider, you could:

What could your Learn to Play event look like?
Your Learn to Play event can be as simple or ambitious as you like. As long as it takes place at some point between the 8 – 11 October, you can register!
You might offer:
● Drop-in instrument try-outs
● 1 to 1 or group lessons
● Singing workshops
● Beginner ensemble sessions
● Opportunities to play with your existing ensemble
The important thing is creating a friendly, accessible environment where people feel encouraged to join in.
How do Music for All support providers?
Registered providers receive promotional support, digital and physical resources, practical advice around marketing, safeguarding, accessibility and creating welcoming experiences for beginners, inclusion on the Learn to Play activity map, plus guidance and advice from the friendly project team, supporting you every step of the way.
