Call for Retailers – Support Learn to Play in partnership with Rocksteady Music School

MIA logo MIA logo

We’re looking to connect with MIA retailers interested in supporting this year’s Learn to Play initiative in October by hosting free music lessons in-store. This is an exciting opportunity for MIA members to partner with Rocksteady Music School, the UK’s leading provider of in-school band lessons for primary school children, as part of Learn to Play – the nationwide music participation campaign led by Music for All.

Learn to Play is Music for All’s flagship annual event and the UK’s biggest free music-making weekend. Taking place from 8th–11th October, the campaign inspires people of all ages and abilities to start or return to playing music through free lessons, workshops and introductory sessions.

Rocksteady Music School have long been associated with the MIA, and had previously partnered with PMT stores to deliver free beginner-friendly lessons during Learn to Play weekends. While PMT is no longer operating, Rocksteady are very keen to continue supporting the initiative and are now looking for new retail venue partners across the UK.

Rocksteady can provide experienced music tutors to deliver the sessions free of charge. This means that the staff in your shop won’t be taken away from normal sales floor activity, but can be primed to support the extra influx of potential customers. What’s needed are welcoming retail spaces where the lessons can take place, and that’s where you come in.

For music retailers, this is a fantastic opportunity to:
• Support grassroots music-making in your local community
• Welcome new customers and families into your store
• Showcase your instruments, products and expertise in an engaging environment
• Increase footfall and in-store engagement during the campaign
• Build relationships with new and aspiring musicians
• Strengthen your store’s reputation as a community music hub
• Be part of a nationally recognised music participation campaign

If your store may be interested in hosting Learn to Play sessions in partnership with Rocksteady Music School, we’d love to hear from you.

We are also hosting a drop-in session on Friday 5th June, giving retailers an informal opportunity to speak directly with the Rocksteady team, find out more about the Learn to Play session format, understand what hosting would involve, and ask any questions. It’s a relaxed way to explore whether the initiative could be a good fit for your store. Sign up for that here
