“I thought the original brown paisley amp covering was handsome, and the all-black version has always been admired for its striking look and durability – highly recommended,” said Paul Reed Smith, PRS Guitars Managing General Partner.
Greek for “ruler” or “lord,” the Archon is a two-channel amp featuring overdriven tones and sparkling cleans with loads of headroom. Powered by two 6L6 tubes and designed with five gain stages before the master volume, the Archon’s lead channel is voiced to cover everything from classic rock to metal with full, lush distortion. The clean channel offers tones that retain clarity even at high volume, creating an excellent platform for pedals.
The Archon Classic is an alternatively voiced circuit from the Archon, with the lead channel excelling in ‘70s and ‘80s rock tones and a hotter clean channel able to go into breakup. The Archon Classic is a powerful, two-channel amp designed for rock and roll players who crave classic tones but still want the ability to push beyond. With a refined gain structure from the original Archon, the Archon Classic’s lead channel offers a wider range of gain flavors – especially in the midrange – and the clean channel goes from pristine clean to edge of breakup.
Archon speaker cabinets feature a closed-back design, delivering punch and tight low end. The Celestion V-Type speaker was chosen for its ability to maintain a balanced tonal signature from the Archon’s clean channel through classic crunch and modern metal gain.
